MERICS is delighted to invite you to a confidential lunchtime discussion with eminent Australian China analyst and strategist John Garnaut, on Monday, 15 July at 12:00 CEST.
Garnaut will provide his analysis of the Chinese government's recent economic policies and share his expectations for the Third Plenum of the Chinese Communist Party’s Central Committee, which is set to convene in Beijing on the same day. He will also discuss national and geopolitical implications of China’s current political trajectory, Beijing’s possible responses to EU and US tariffs and the likelihood of an escalation around Taiwan.
John Garnaut served as Senior Advisor to Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, where he led the government’s interagency analysis of foreign interference and catalysed Australia’s recalibration of its China policy. Today, his consultancy Garnaut Global helps clients understand and navigate China's politics and technology. Garnaut previously worked as a China correspondent and is the author of “The Rise and Fall of the House of Bo”. He is currently also a Senior Fellow at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute and an Honorary Fellow at the University of Melbourne’s School of Journalism.
The conversation is for MERICS Members and key stakeholders, and by personal invitation only. In order to enable an open and confidential discussion, the event is taking place in person; digital participation is not possible.
